Resistance Band Exercises - a most effective means for developing speed and quickness!
The resistance band workout, when done the way we teach it, will isolate and condition your muscles so that they will react with speed and quickness.
One of the most popular forms of exercise training today deals with what is known as resistance training. The way the term is often used today means to utilize things such as elastic bands or flexible pieces of metal to provide you with a simulated form of weight training.
One of the new and more popular types of resistance training aids is what is known as the resistance band or exercise band.
The resistance band is an outstanding product that has a very unique physical property known as 'variable elastic potential'. This means that the more you stretch the band the more resistance that is applied, and the faster it will snap back.
Why the elastic properties of the resistance band work for developing speed.
If you took an elastic band and stretched it from the ground up to, let's say, three feet, and then you released the top of the band and at the same time you also dropped a barbell plate from the same distance, which would reach the ground first, the band or the barbell?
The elastic band would always beat the weight to the ground. Even if you increased the weight of the barbell the elastic band would always beat the weight by the same distance.
In fact, it would never even be close. This is because the spring constant (or the resistance factor) in the bands are several times greater that the acceleration of gravity (9.8 m/s/s or 32.2 ft/s/s) with is associated with all weight training and plyometric training strategies.
This is part of the physics behind the programs.
So now, by stretching an elastic band and then holding it apart with your muscles, you are now conditioning them to respond just like an elasic band, and that is to accelerate or contract with amazing speed when stretched.
The is primarily because the resistance level of the band is dynamic and changes as the length of the stretched band changes.
During an isometric routine, when your muscle weakens and begins to give or shake, it must fight to hold the position. As it does so against a resistance level that is constantly changing as the band length ever so slightly changes, the muscle must immediately and continually recruit additional motor units to continue to hold the position. The result is that the muscle quickens, strengthens and matures very quickly.
It is simply a matter of physics behind the strategy and is why the resistance band is a popular and effective training aid for developing speed.
The combination of isometric training along with the resistance band has the effect of training and conditioning your muscles for a pure speed of contraction function.
And, if you use them as our programs teach, you will see and feel the difference.
Training your muscles to become very fast and to respond very quickly can best be accomplished by using a resistance band along with isometric training.
All of the AthleticQuickness.com speed and agility training drills and exercises use the resistance band throughout the entire workout.
The result of using a resistance band exercise with isometrics, the way we teach it, is that the fast twitch muscle fibers are conditioned for speed and quickness, and perhaps for the first time.

Our programs use resistance band exercises that are specifically designed to train your muscles for speed and quickness. This means that you will run faster, jump higher, kick farther, and swing faster. |
Isometric training programs, properly using exercise bands, provide an excellent, yet easy to do workout that will isolate, strengthen, and quicken specific muscle groups in the body. You will probably soon realize that you are training muscles that have previously been underdeveloped.
This is because you will be training them specifically for speed and quickness, and not strength or endurance. Though as the muscle matures in speed you will see the added benefit of an increase in strength as well.
Resistance band exercises are becoming more popular as people discover their effectiveness and realize that they are safe and very effective for any age group and any level of fitness: beginner, youth, high school, collegiate, and professional.
In addition, when used properly with an isometric program, elastic exercise bands will dramatically improve specific athletic functions or drills and quickly improve your sports performance.
Why isometrics with resistance band training is powerful and fast for developing speed.
